Psychological Services

Whether you are an individual, a couple, or a family looking for help our assessment and therapy sessions are individually tailored to meet your own needs. We offer assessment and therapy to individuals who self-refer but do not offer services via Health Insurers.

Neurodiversity (ASD, Autism, Asperger's,ADHD).

We offer psychological support to children, adolescents and adults and their families or partners who have, or are suspected of having, a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.  We work with those who may have received a diagnosis but don't really understand or know how to cope following a diagnosis.  We do not currently offer an ASD disgnosis service.

Adult ADHD Assessment

At Mind Matters Psychology Ltd we understand that finding the right provider for a private ADHD assessment can be an overwhelming and daunting process. We believe it is important that you have enough information to make a decision that is right for you, and we endeavour to make sure that we provide you with this upfront. It might be helpful to  consider what you want to get out of an assessment for ADHD. For example, you may be looking for validation and a better understanding of why you have been struggling with things in your life or for a diagnosis to help support work-place adjustments and to access services like work-place coaching.

We offer a comprehensive ADHD assessment for adults aged 18 years plus and our Gold Standard ADHD assessment is compliant with NICE Guidelines. It may be important to check that your Local Education Authority, and local NHS service will accept a private assessment, as these, along with your GP, will be your gateways to local support moving forward.  If you decide that you would like to consider ADHD medication, then an assessment with a Psychiatrist, or a Specialist ADHD Nurse with additional prescribing qualifications, will be needed. Clinical Psychologists do not prescribe medication.

ADHD aware is a UK based charity and provides some good information on getting a diagnosis:https://adhdaware.org.uk/what-is-adhd/getting-nhs-diagnosis/

Assessment Procedure

We offer a choice of assessment depending on need. Our assessments include: a current perspectives interview; screening questionnaires, a detailed biopsychosocial assessment; and a standardised and validated diagnostic assessment interview and in some cases a cognitive assessment.  We provide a thorough feedback session and a detailed report that includes information for further support and symptom management.  The full assessments are conducted by two Clinical Psychologists each of whom you will see at separate stages of the assessment procedure.

To help with your decision making, we start with an Initial Assessment Consultation (fees apply), so that you have the opportunity to ask us questions, and so that we can make sure you get the assessment that will be of most benefit.  There is no obligation to continue with us after this consultation.

We also offer three sessions of post-assessment support, whether you meet the criteria for a diagnosis or not.  This is an opportunity to talk through the assessment outcome in detail, reflect on the outcome and personal meaning of the assessment and get a better understanding of any conditions diagnosed.  There is also the opportunity to consider the next steps and signposting to additional sources of support as required.  We provide an e-resource pack that covers tips for managing ADHD in adulthood, employment rights and online support resources.
